It is safe to say that some of you have already met The Walrus AKA Carl, who is the new publican in town.
 
So what is the story behind the name…
 
‘Twas bestowed upon him many years ago by a flamboyant marketing manager, known from here on simply as Barrie.
 
In need to pay the bills, given the difficulty of making money from being in a post punk, alt glam, half grunge, quarter speed metal, full originals rock band, Carl found himself selling Time Shares in an office off K Road in Auckland in the early 1990’s.
 
Befriending the senior management, the Walrus invited the executives to join him in a round of golf.
 
During a round, Barrie had commented that Carls swing resembled that of Craig Stadler’s (a golfer of a more rotund stature who played the mens pro circuit).

His nickname, “The Walrus.”
 
Many years after Carl and Barrie had parted ways from the Time Share company in K Road, the golfing duo would meet up again at a mutual friend’s party in Adelaide.
 
This party was a reunion of many an old friend. Carl had arrived early and later in the evening Barrie pronounced his arrival by loudly enquiring, “WHERE IS THE WALRUS!” which left the room silent.
 
The silence being  broken by an even louder, “COO COO CACHOO.”
 
The name, of course, was to stick from that moment onwards.
